Oils And Fats
Finding Hidden Fat
Fat in food may go unnoticed and can add up quickly. We can, however, see and control the type and amount of oil and fat that we add to foods. You may need guidance in figuring out how to apply the recommendations about added oils and fats. Think about your own meals for the day. Write down what foods you prepared using added oil or what you served with salad dressing, mayonnaise, or margarine. This exercise may help you better understand how you can apply the guidance about added oils and fats in your daily meals. It is also important to think about the type of oils and fats that you use. Have a look at the oils and fats you have in the cupboard or refrigerator. Are they the types recommended in Canada's Food Guide? If you use soft margarine, read the label to see if it is low in saturated and trans fats.
