True
Smoking does increase your need for vitamin C by up to 50%
and being exposed to passive smoke increases your needs
by about 25%.
Getting adequate vitamin C is important for several reasons.
Vitamin C helps to promote healthy teeth and gums and to
heal wounds. It also enhances iron absorption from other
foods you eat. And growing evidence suggests that vitamin
C may be useful in preventing certain cancers and cataracts.
Vitamin C is found mainly in the fruits and vegetables that
are orange, red and green in colour such as strawberries,
oranges, red peppers and brussel sprouts.
Even though you need more vitamin C if you smoke or are
around people who do, the best thing to do is not to smoke
at all!
